Abstract

ABSTRACT

In studies of intertextual relations in Haur besoetakoa, to date the most cited examples have been Celtic mythology and Vladimir Nabokov’s Lolita (1955). In this article we want to highlight pre-Christian mythology as well as Greco-Roman traditions at both the superficial and profound levels in the novel. From the proposed hypertextual relations it is deduced that this literary work was an attempt to create “high literature” in Basque and that it is introduced into the genealogy of what is termed the “universal” western literary tradition. Moreover, several details will be highlighted through ideological interpretations linked to paganism.
