Abstract
This article analyses the origin and characteristics of the castle located on the top of Urgull mountain in San Sebastian. Through the critical analysis of the available written and archaeological testimonies, we propose a new hypothesis for the reconstruction of the building and the identification of the structures that formed the current fortress, in an itinerary that starts in the Middle Ages and finishes in the mid XVIth century, suggesting a radically different approach to the so far accepted layout.
